Necklace Lengths

Find the length you love!

Necklaces and chains come in many lengths to flatter different body frames, necklines, and face shapes. Use these images as a general guideline for length.

Keep in mind that the fit of a necklace can be affected by several factors, for example if you have a thicker or narrower neck, or even if the angle of your neck to your shoulder is wider or more vertical.

If you intend to wear a pendant with your chain, the chain will be pulled downward into a V-shape, so it may appear slightly longer.

If in doubt, use a measuring tape or string to help decide how long your necklace should be.

Common Chain Styles

Anchor

Anchor chain, also called a mariner chain, is typically thick and heavy with rounded elongated links broken in half with a bar element.

Bead

Bead chain consists of metal balls that are identical in shape and size. They are joined together by connector wire or bars.

Box

Box chains have squared links (rather than the typical round or oval links) and connect to look like a box. The shape of this chain makes it very stable and durable.

Cable

Cable chain is created from perpendicular round or oval links that are exactly the same and connected together. The links of the chain can be flattened so that the chain is flat.

Curb

A curb chain consists of circular links that interlock and lie flat close together. It is made from oval or round links that are parallel to another and all the same size.

Figaro

Figaro chain has its origins in Italy and is worn around the globe. The pattern of this chain is created with two or three round curb links followed by a long oval link.

Herringbone

Herringbone chain consists of flat and thin segments of metal. The individual links overlap each other in an intricate manner.

Mirror

Mirror chain consists of small, flat, reflective links the resemble tiny mirrors. These reflective surfaces catch and play with light, giving the necklace a sparkling eye-catching appearance.

Omega

Omega chain is made from individual components that are closely combined and extremely inflexible. They are arranged in a curve and retain a consistent oval shape.

Paperclip-Style

Paperclip-style chain, also known as elongated box or elongated cable, has round or oval links that are stretched to make the appearance longer and narrower.

Raso

Raso chain showcases an alternating pattern of twisted oval beads and round, open links. Its diamond-cut design throughout ensures a brilliant sparkle from every angle.

Rolo

Rolo chain features links created from flat or half-round wire. The shape of the links are perpendicular to one another and may be round or oval. The outer edges of the chains are rounded and the inside is usually flat.

Rope

Rope chain consists of intertwined links that mimic the look of a genuine rope. It has a shiny, textured look and is durable and strong. These chains vary by the thickness and tightness of the braid or weave.

Singapore

Singapore chain appears delicate, but its strong soldered links make it extremely durable. It is a twisted chain linking pattern that is a combination of a rope chain and a curb chain.

Snake

Snake chain has a sleek look and gets its name because of its unique texture and the way it moves. The thin and delicate chain rings fit together tightly to form a flexible tube.

Wheat

This chain has oval links that are twisted together and look similar to a braided rope. The design of this chain creates a symmetrical look with the links going in the same direction.
